Jury reaches verdict in trial of a woman accused of killing another in a drunken crash

A jury found a woman not guilty after she was accused of drunkenly causing a wreck that killed one person.

The decision means Susan Nevitt will no longer face charges in connection to the Dec. 26, 2015, crash that killed a 72-year-old woman.

The Horry County jury reached its decision on Thursday after three days of trial, according to Seth Oskin, an assistant solicitor in Horry County. Nevitt was facing charges of DUI resulting in death and DUI with great bodily injury.

Jessie Jameson, 72, died in the crash around 1:15 a.m. the day after Christmas 2015 on U.S. Highway 501 near Pee Dee Road, officials said.

Nevitt drove a 2013 Dodge Durango, crossed the center line and hit a Toyota. Jameson was a passenger in the Toyota, police said. She was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Jameson’s brother-in-law and sister were also in the car at the time of the crash.

Nevitt’s 10-year-old daughter was in the Durango and also taken to the hospital after the crash.
