Update: Victim named in fatal crash reported in Horry County early Saturday morning

An Effingham woman was killed in Horry County early Saturday morning after the vehicle she was traveling in was struck head-on, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol officials.

Jessie Jameson, 72, died at a Marion hospital following the deadly crash that happened at 1:15 a.m. Saturday on U.S. 501 near Pee Dee Road, authorities said.

The driver of a 2013 Dodge Durango was traveling on U.S. 501 and crossed the center line, hitting a 2012 Toyota sports utility vehicle head-on. Jameson was the passenger in the Toyota SUV and was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, SCHP officials said. Jameson later died from injuries suffered during the crash, Horry County Coroner Robert Edge said.

A 10-year-old child in the Durango was taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, and the driver of the Toyota SUV was also taken there for treatment, authorities said.

Charges in the incident are pending, and the crash is still being investigated by the highway patrol, Cpl. Hannah Wimberly with the SCHP said.
