Suspect in shooting near Pirates Voyage rejects plea deal, here is what was offered
The man accused of a shooting at Pirates Voyage rejected a plea deal, opting instead to take his case to a jury where he could face two decades behind bars.
Louis Vandunk was in Horry County court on Wednesday for a hearing. Police charged him with several crimes, including shooting into a dwelling and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. He faces a maximum of 23 years in prison.
During the hearing, Vandunk told the judge he rejected the state’s plea offer of two years in prison.
As a result, the state set Vandunk’s trial for February.
In June 2017, a security guard at Pirates Voyage said he saw two men run from the front to the back of the business and then heard gunshots, according to investigators. Pirates Voyage is a popular entertainment show and venue located outside of Myrtle Beach along U.S. Highway 17.
A different employee told police that he saw a man run to the back parking lot and turn to fire three shots in the direction of the building.
A witness helped identify where a suspect was sitting inside the venue before the shooting, police say.
Weeks after the shooting, Horry County police identified Vandunk as a suspect. He was arrested until November 2017.
