Grand Strand beach community is site of new HGTV show. When you can watch it
The new season of HGTV’s “Battle on the Beach,” set in Garden City, will premiere next month.
The coastal community was the setting for filming of the TV home decorating show, which began in March and focused on three beach homes along the Atlantic Ocean.
The seven-episode season will have a two-hour premiere at 9 p.m. on June 1, according to a press release from HGTV.
During this season, HGTV stars Sarah Baeumler of “Rock the Block,” Mika Kleinschmidt of “100 Day Dream Home” and Ty Pennington of “Rock the Block” mentor a two-person team of renovators as they vie to transform beachfront vacation properties into “stunning waterfront escapes” that will sell for top dollar, the release said.
Over seven weeks and armed with $100,000, the teams will overhaul the homes while navigating design challenges, including repurposing discarded roadside finds in their homes and swapping partners for the chance at additional prize money.
Husband-and-wife renovation duo Tristyn and Kamohai Kalama from the TV show “Renovation Aloha” will determine which team increases the rental value of each week’s revamped space, with the winner given a critical choice: take home $3,000 now or apply $6,000 to the final grand prize.
When the renovations are complete, the team that clinches the highest peak season rate for their short-term rental will claim a cash prize of at least $50,000, with their mentor boasting ultimate bragging rights.
The mentored teams include married couple Steven and Angelina Jacobs of Waterbury, Connecticut; husband-wife team Josiah and Anna Julian of Baltimore; and mother-daughter duo Michelle Mueller and Sydney Lorence of Lincoln, Nebraska.
In the kick-off challenge, the teams race through Garden City, following clues in hopes of reaching the pier first to win a top advantage: choosing their preferred beach house and assigning the other two properties to the competitors.
As the season continues, the teams will design vacation-worthy rooms, including the kitchens, dining rooms, main suites, guest bedrooms, bathrooms and exteriors.
