Teen involved in Conway area boating collision has died. His name has been released
A 19-year-old Conway man died after a boating accident on the Waccamaw River.
Canon Burkett died at Conway Medical Center where he was transported after a boating accident in the Jackson Bluff Road area on May 8, 2026, according to an email from Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard.
Two boats collided about 5:27 p.m. on the river, according to a Facebook post from the Conway Fire Department.
It is believed that two people were involved in the collision, the post said.
Horry County Fire Rescue said on its Facebook page that two people were transported to the hospital with critical injuries. Three additional patients were treated on the scene.
Conway Fire, Horry County Fire Rescue and South Carolina Department of Natural Resources responded to the collision.
