Spirit Airlines stops flights to Myrtle Beach airport. How you can get a refund
One of Myrtle Beach’s busiest airlines has stopped flights to the coastal city ahead of the summer season.
Myrtle Beach International Airport announced Saturday that Spirit Airlines ceased all flight operations effective immediately. The airport said that passengers scheduled to travel on Spirit should not come to the airport unless they are already booked on another airline, according to a Facebook post.
How travelers can get a refund from the airline is up in the air. The airlines said on Facebook that it would not be able to assist with rebooking on another flight, but it would refund flights purchased through Spirit with a credit card or debit card.
Spirit, which offers low-cost flights around the country, is among the largest air service providers out of the Myrtle Beach airport. It offered flights to eight different locations, including Orlando, New York and Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Thousands of people use the airlines to fly into Myrtle Beach, especially during spring break and the summer season.
Myrtle Beach is the sixth-most searched coastal destination for spring break 2026, Spirit Airlines reported earlier this year. This year, it estimated that roughly 10,000 Spirit flights would depart between March 12 and March 30, which the airline defined as the peak spring break travel period.
Spirit had filed for bankruptcy twice in less than a year, and negotiations over a $500 million federal bailout fell apart after major bondholders refused to accept terms for the plan. In addition to mounting debt and other issues, rising jet fuel costs tied to the war in Iran appear to have been the breaking point for the airline.
