Speed limit dropped on this Myrtle Beach roadway after complaints of speeding
Myrtle Beach has reduced the speed limit along another of its roadways.
This is the second area in the city in which the speed limit has been changed following residents’ concerns of speeding.
New, yellow warning signs have been placed along 48th Avenue North alerting drivers that the speed limit has dropped from 35 mph to 25 mph, according to a city government Facebook post.
Myrtle Beach City Council directed staff to make the change in late March, the post said.
The city assumed ownership earlier this year of 48th Avenue North between Robert Grissom Parkway and Little River Road, the post said. It was originally owned by the South Carolina Department of Transportation. That transfer allowed the city to implement the reduced speed limit from Robert Grissom Parkway to Kings Highway.
Other Myrtle Beach speed limit changes
Last year, city officials dropped the speed limit in The Market Common on Farrow Parkway, between Shine and Meyers avenues, from 35 mph to 30 mph.
However, residents have continued to raise concerns about speeding on Farrow Parkway, again asking city officials to reduce the speed limit even lower to 25 mph.
City council members in January discussed developing a plan to introduce traffic-calming measures on the roadway in an effort to crackdown on traffic violations, including speeding.
Council decided to evaluate the situation and receive feedback for two months before considering a motion to lower the speed limit. Council also discussed the possibility of broadening traffic-calming efforts in other areas of the city.
