SC cities are among top golf destinations in South. They beat out Florida spots

Myrtle Beach’s sun and sand may be the top reason millions of vacationers make their way to the coastal city each year. But the second has got to be the golfing.

Myrtle Beach has long been considered a top destination in the country for golfers with more than 90 public and resort golf courses located across the Grand Strand.

And now it’s one of three South Carolina cities that have been named a top 10 golf destination in the South, according to the magazine Southern Living.

The state spots, which beat out Florida for their positions, were voted on by magazine readers.

Myrtle Beach came in as No. 5 on the list, noted for its “impressive list of public courses and plenty of resorts offering enticing ‘stay and play’ packages,” the magazine said. The area’s natural landscape, which includes tidal marshes and the Intracoastal Waterway, makes the beach town a standout location, the magazine said.

Kiawah Island came in at No. 4 and Hilton Island ranked No. 2 on the list.
