Coroner releases name of person who died in two-vehicle crash in Conway

The name of a driver killed in a two-vehicle crash last week has been released by the Horry County Coroner’s Office.

David Shipman, 62, of Sumter, died when his vehicle crashed head-on with another vehicle along Highway 90 in Conway, according to Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard by email.

Lanes of traffic along Highway 90 and Thomas Road were blocked for some time on March 7 while police and emergency crews responded to the fatal crash about 6:48 p.m.

The driver of a 2002 Dodge pickup truck traveling west on S.C. 90 crossed the centerline and hit head on a 2014 Toyota Camry traveling the opposite direction, according to an email from Master Trooper Hannah Davidson with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The pickup truck driver, later identified as Shipman, was transported to a hospital where he later died, Davidson said. The other driver also was taken to a hospital with injuries.
