Horry County is moving forward on a new emergency medical services station with plans to finance its building with millions of dollars.

An Horry County Council ordinance would dedicate up to $5 million in general obligation bonds to cover the costs of land, design, construction and equipment for the planned Windy Hill EMS Station.

According to county staff, issuing the debt over a shorter term is in Horry County’s best interest. Although it will result in higher annual principal payment currently, they said it would increase future borrowing capability.

The county’s Administration Committee recommended passing the financing plan, and the ordinance has made it through two rounds of council readings.

If the ordinance passes another reading, it will immediately go into effect. A third reading is scheduled for March 3.
