The power is out in Myrtle Beach. Here’s who is affected.
Power is out to thousands of people in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Friday evening.
The City of Myrtle Beach sent an email and posted on social media pages that a power outage was affecting traffic lights, and warned drivers to proceed with caution. “The Myrtle Beach Police Department is directing traffic at major intersections and other key locations to help maintain driver safety and traffic flow,” the post stated.
They also noted that the Pepper Geddings Recreation Center and the Rivers Lynch Tennis Center are closed for the remainder of the evening.
Several restaurant owners and diners took to social media to complain about the interruption of service.
Santee Cooper’s online reporting shows that there are five outages in the area, affecting 11,334 people. They estimate restoration of service around 8:45 p.m. Friday.
Santee Cooper maintains a service map where users can check for updates regarding their power services.
It is unclear what caused the outage. The city posted that several transformers have blown at the Santee Cooper facility on North Oak Street.
