A sinkhole opened up under a car at a Myrtle Beach intersection on Tuesday morning.

A water main break near the SCDOT RIDE III construction site occurred overnight, causing the collapse in the road on Harrelson Boulevard, the city said in a Facebook post. The city initially reported that the 6-inch water main had broken, but updated their post to state that it was the 12-inch water main that broke.

The break occurred near the Coastal Grand Mall entrance. The driver is “okay,” according to the city.

As of 8:45 a.m., the city announced that the car had been pulled out of the hole, and the hole had been drained.

Crews will work through the rest of the day Tuesday to repair the break and the road. A reopening date for the entrance has not yet been announced.
