One of Horry County’s two swing bridges will be the star of an upcoming TV series.

The Socastee Swing Bridge over the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway will be closed for filming of the final season of the popular Netflix series “Outer Banks.”

The bridge will be closed July 29.

South Carolina Department of Transportation permitted Netflix’s production 24 hours of access to the bridge, which reopens July 30, SCDOT said.

Drivers can avoid the closure by driving along S.C. 544.

The South Carolina Film Commission and SCDOT said they did not know when Netflix or the “Outer Banks” production team would be filming on the bridge.

“Outer Banks” is an action-adventure series about a group of working-class teenage friends nicknamed the “pogues” who search for treasure tied to the missing father of the main character, John B.

The final season will capture the conclusion of the treasure hunt and their quest for revenge for the death of one of the “pogues.”

Although the show is called “Outer Banks,” most of the show was shot and produced in Charleston and co-wrote and co-directed by Wilmington, North Carolina, resident Jonas Pate and his brother Josh Pate.

The Socastee Swing Bridge is nationally recognized as a historic place. Built in 1936, the bridge marked the conclusion of South Carolina’s building of the Intracoastal Waterway.
