Dagwood’s in Surfside Beach to reopen after fire shut it down. When you can dine at deli
A popular Surfside Beach restaurant has reopened after an overnight fire shut it down for four months.
Dagwood’s Deli & Sports Bar, 600 Highway 17 N., opened Monday, according to owner Jon Staton.
Residents and visitors have been asking when the deli will reopen.
“I got that question all the time,” he said about when the business would reopen.
Staton said a man told him recently that the restaurant’s closure was “cramping our vacation.” However, the man is staying for a month so he will be able to dine at the deli before he and his wife return home, Staton said.
Staton owns all three locations of Dagwood’s along the Grand Strand.
The restaurant was forced to close after a fire on Jan. 2. Diners won’t notice many changes in the main dining room, as most of the renovations have taken place in the kitchen after the ceiling, HVAC and rafters were damaged by the fire.
It’s unknown exactly what caused the fire, but it is believed to have something to do with the HVAC, said marketing director Tiffany Doolittle.
Dagwood’s Deli first opened in downtown Myrtle Beach in 1988 serving deli sandwiches and subs. It expanded in 2006 to Surfside Beach and to North Myrtle Beach in 2022, according to its website.
