A North Carolina woman is seeking more than $100,000 after breaking her neck at a Myrtle Beach Red Roof Inn, lawsuit says.

A North Carolina woman is suing Red Roof Inn after allegedly breaking her neck in a Myrtle Beach hotel room last spring.

According to the lawsuit filed in Horry County on March 31, Cindy Gallimore struck her head on hotel room furniture, suffering significant head injuries and breaking her neck, on May 25, 2024 at the Red Roof Inn at 2801 S. Kings Highway near Market Common.

She fell “as a result of a dangerous condition … existing in the area of the bed because of acts or omissions of the Defendants,” the lawsuit says. The alleged dangerous condition isn’t clear in the lawsuit, and Gallimore’s lawyer, Ross Abbott, declined to comment on the nature of the hazard.

Gallimore is suing hotel manager David Helman of Red Roof Inns and Red Roofs Inns — both of which do business as Red Roof Inn — and three businesses affiliated with the brand: Westmont Hospitality Management LLC, Westmont Hospitality Network Corporation and RRI West Management LLC.

The defendants allegedly failed to maintain safe conditions, discover and correct dangerous conditions, warn guests of dangers and comply with building codes, regulations and industry standards.

The lawsuit also says they didn’t vet and hire competent employees or train, supervise and issue proper guidance for employees.

“Plaintiff’s injuries were caused by the hazardous conditions created, controlled, and maintained by the Defendants at the Red Roof Inn,” the suit says.

Gallimore allegedly suffered permanent impairment and injuries to her brain, face, head and spine. According to the suit, she also suffered loss of consciousness, pain, limitation of motion, mental anguish, loss of enjoyment and medical bills.

According to the summons, she is seeking actual damages in excess of $100,000, as well as punitive damages, costs for the lawsuit and further relief.

The Sun News was unable to reach Helman for comment. Abbott and a representative for Red Roof Inn declined to speak on the active lawsuit.
