A person driving along S.C. 31 died after crashing into a concrete barrier and overturning.

Darius Holmes, 31, of Denmark, South Carolina, died at a local hospital as a result of his injuries, according to Horry County Deputy Coroner Michelle McSpadden by email.

Holmes was headed south on S.C. 31 about 2 a.m. Sunday when the vehicle veered left, struck a concrete barrier, ended up in the median, struck an embankment and then overturned, said Sgt. Tyler Tidwell with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred near S.C. 707.

EMS brought the driver to the Grand Strand Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries, according to Tidwell. The driver was the sole occupant in the car. No one else was injured in the crash.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
