A Myrtle Beach teenager has died after crashing his motorcycle while allegedly attempting to evade police.

Eighteen-year-old Lane Stiff was driving his motorcycle on S.C. 544 about 4:30 p.m. Feb. 26 when police tried to pull him over, Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard and Horry County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Brennan Cavanagh said by email.

According to an Horry County Sheriff’s Department report, Stiff was speeding. The speed limit in the area is 45 mph.

Stiff ignored the blue lights, drove his motorcycle into the intersection of S.C. 814 and S.C 544 and hit another vehicle. This caused the vehicle to crash into another car, Cavanagh said. The crash killed Stiff and sent one person to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The collision shut down S.C. 544 for three hours, according to a Facebook post from Horry County Fire Rescue.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating with help from the Horry County Sheriff’s Office. Horry County Fire Rescue responded to the crash.
