‘Great pain and emotional distress.’ Bed bugs found in Myrtle Beach hotel, lawsuit says
A businesswoman staying in downtown Myrtle Beach said she suffered from severe bed bug bites, a lawsuit states.
The suit was electronically filed in Horry County on Feb. 27, 2025 against the Sheraton Myrtle Beach Convention Hotel in downtown Myrtle Beach.
The plaintiff’s attorney, S. Jahue Moore Jr., writes that his client was on a business trip on Jan. 12, 2025 when she awoke in the middle of the night with significant pain.
The lawsuit states that she “awakened to multiple bite[s] throughout her entire body which caused her great pain and emotional distress.”
The following day, the woman’s doctor confirmed that the pain stemmed from “significant bed bug bites,” the suit says.
The suit asks for a judgment against the hotel operated by Marriott International for emotional and punitive damages.
This is at least the second lawsuit filed against the convention center hotel over alleged bed bug encounters. In January 2023, a Lexington County man said he was also bitten by bed bugs in the middle of the night while staying there. Horry County court records show that the case was settled and then dismissed in May 2024. The settlement conditions are unknown.
Last month, the City of Myrtle Beach voted to extend their contract with this hotel for another decade. The city wasn’t named in the lawsuit.
