Surfside Beach pub has gone to the dogs. How this new spot will cater to dogs and humans
What started out as a ride service for pups is now expanding into a pups pub.
But there won’t be any alcohol for the pups, as the dog-friendly pub is for the human owners.
Karola Richardson is opening Petey’s Pup Pub in Surfside Beach, an extension of her Petey’s Pup Rides.
The dog ride service picks up clients, who ride shot gun, in a golf cart and takes them on field trips and other adventures as part of Richardson’s dog daycare and boarding company located at 803 Highway 17 S.
Richardson said her clients’ owners would ask if they could take rides in the golf carts with the dogs and “kept expressing that they would love to hang out.”
The humans would often sit in front of the business and chat, and Richardson would ask if anyone wanted coffee. That gave her the idea to open a pup pub, someplace where the owners could come with their dogs and socialize.
The location of the boarding business is large with wide open space in the front, Richardson said. That is where the pub will be, providing seating for 50 people. There is also the opportunity for seating in the back. Humans will be able to see the dogs as they sit and order drinks such as craft beers, wine, and frozen drinks, Richardson said.
In addition to alcohol, Petey’s will also serve such food items as soft pretzels, nachos, and other short-order items.
“Whatever is allowable will be on our menu,” Richardson said.
Richardson expects the pub to open “any day now.”
“We are very excited,” she said. “We were wanting a fun spot for our pups, but also wanting to include the pup parents.”
And in case you’re wondering, there really is a Petey, except her name is Mia, and Richardson owns her. She got the nickname Petey from the white dog with the famous “black eye” that starred in “Our Gang” and featured the Little Rascals.
