South Carolina releases number of HOA complaints. Here’s how many Horry County received

The South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs released its annual report on Home Owners Associations in the state.

Horry County topped the 2024 list for the number of HOA complaints by double, the findings showed.

The top three counties in the state with the most amount of HOA complaints are:

  • Horry County, with 27% of the total number of complaints filed with the department
  • Richland County, with 13.4%
  • Charleston County, with 7.8%

In total, the department received 434 complaints against 325 HOAs/management companies throughout South Carolina.

The summary of the findings said the department received 14% more complaints in 2024 compared to 2023.

Horry County also had the most amount of HOA complaints filed with the department in 2023.
