56 people make more than $100,000 a year working for Myrtle Beach. Who makes the most?

In 2024, the highest paid Myrtle Beach government employee makes over $250,000 a year while the lowest paid position makes around $37,000 a year, according to Mark Kruea, Myrtle Beach public information director.

The city is funded by taxes, so it’s important to know how the local government divides up money from its residents. Through a public records request, The Sun News obtained 2024 salary amounts for employees making over $50,000.

In 2024, there are 56 employees making over $100,000 annually and one person making over $200,000. Common positions for this salary range include directors, chiefs and captains of various departments, as well as assistants to these high paid positions.

From 2023 to 2024, all full-time employees would have received a pay raise of at least $5,000 according to Kruea.

Mayor Brenda Bethune was near the bottom, making $50,003 annually as a part-time employee. According to Govsalaries.com, she’s been making $50,000 a year since starting in 2018.

People making between $50,0000 and $100,000 most commonly worked in emergency services and in various police-related departments. This includes firefighters, firefighter paramedics and police officers, but also detention officers, communications officers and administrative employees.
