These Horry County top-paid employees made more than $200K in 2023. Here’s who they are

In 2023, out of all Horry County government employees, 21 made more than $100,000 and of those, two made more than $200,000.

The Sun News received the top 23 highest paid Horry County employees and their 2023 salaries through a Freedom of Information Act request fulfilled on Jan. 17. GovSalaries was used to find wage data from previous years.

Due to public interest on how tax dollars are spent, The Sun News is sharing how much the top 10 employees made.

From 2022 to 2023, the top 10 highest paid employees received raises around 5% except for two employees: Steven Gosnell and Judith Olmstead. County Administrator Gosnell received a 12.72% raise, increasing his salary from $225,341 to $253,000. Olmstead was promoted from assistant director of airports to director of airports and got a 10.25% raise, from $165,639 to $182,617.

  4. Assistant County Administrator Barry Spivey - $187,088.94
  5. Assistant County Administrator John Gilreath - $187,088.44
  6. Director of Airports Judith Olmstead - $182,617.05
  7. President/CEO of Myrtle Beach Regional Economic Development Corporation Sandy Davis - $172,430.4
  8. Sheriff Phillip Thompson - $158,348.82
  9. Probate Judge Randy Beverly - $153,464.48

  10. Clerk of Court Renee Elvis - $135,517.28
