Matthew McConaughey makes Myrtle Beach mention in new ad. Where to find it.

Oscar-winning actor Matthew McConaughey has lent his voice to Visit Myrtle Beach and Stand Up To Cancer, narrating a public service announcement to raise awareness about the importance of funding research.

The 1 minute and 7 second ad cuts between McConaughey and poignant moments captured on the sands of Myrtle Beach with the SkyWheel and high rise hotels in the background.

Viewers follow along as a family’s daughter grows up with her father being diagnosed.

“When it matters, we can all stand up to cancer. Please join Stand Up To Cancer and Myrtle Beach to help families get back to where they belong, making new memories for years to come,” McConaughey says in the ad.

The 53-year-old won the 2014 best actor award for his role in Dallas Buyer’s Club. He’s been involved with Stand Up 2 Cancer for more than a decade.

Given the roughly 17 million people who visit the Grand Strand every year for its award-winning golf courses, 60 miles of coastline and range of dining options, centering a cancer awareness ad around the city was logical, Visit Myrtle Beach president and CEO Karen Riordan said in a press release.

“The collaboration between Visit Myrtle Beach and Stand Up To Cancer exemplifies our joint desire to assist families who have been affected by cancer in continuing to create memories for generations,” Riordan said in a press release.

Co-founded in 2008, the nonprofit has since raised more than $746 million to pay for hundreds of clinical trials and cancer research.

The PSA will be placed across print, broadcast, radio, digital and out-of-home outlets, Visit Myrtle Beach said.
