A Great White shark, Andromache, was tracked off the coast of Myrtle Beach Sept. 23.

The shark pinged at 7:53 p.m., according to research group OCEARCH, which tracks sharks. It had been swimming in the area since about 1 p.m., the tracker reported.

A ping happens when an animal tag breaks the surface of the water, sending data, according to OCEARCH.

The female juvenile shark, weighing 341 pounds and more than 10 feet long, has been tracked along the Grand Strand, from North Myrtle Beach to Murrells Inlet, since 2020.

Andromache, named after the Greek character of the same name, was tagged by OCEARCH during its Massachusetts expedition in 2020.
