Georgia teen dies after being pulled from Atlantic Ocean in Myrtle Beach SC
A Georgia teenager died Monday nearly two weeks after he was pulled from the ocean in Myrtle Beach, the Horry County Coroner’s Office said Wednesday.
Daniel Rowe, 18, of Acworth, Georgia, died at a local hospital after being pulled from the ocean near 12th Avenue South in Myrtle Beach, the coroner’s office said.
The case has been ruled an accidental drowning.
The incident was reported at 4:15 p.m. June 20, according to a Myrtle Beach Police report. When officers arrived, EMS crews were treating the victim and he was transported to the hospital, the report said.
The Myrtle Beach area has been experiencing dangerous rip currents in the last few weeks.
According to the National Weather Service, rip currents have caused 55 drownings so far this year, including two last month locally.
On June 6, 16-year-old Tre’Sean Snow of Fayetteville, North Carolina, drowned at Huntington Beach State Park in Murrells Inlet while attempting to rescue a child caught up in the water. Then on June 21, Darrell Lambert, 70, died attempting to save his grandchild from a current at a Pawleys Island beach.
