NC man died in Horry County crash involving an 18-wheel tractor-trailer

A 27-year-old man died after two vehicles, one of them an 18-wheel tractor-trailer, collided and caught fire Wednesday in Nichols, according to Horry County officials.

Victor Hugo Parra Navarrete, of Shannon, N.C., died at the scene of the crash from burns and other injuries, according to Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard.

Horry County Fire Rescue responded to the collision at the intersection of S.C. 9 and North Nichols Highway about 5:40 a.m., according to previous reporting.

The tractor-trailer and a Honda sedan crashed into one another, said South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Nick Pye.

Navarrete was the driver of the sedan. The driver of the 18-wheeler suffered no injuries, Pye added.

Highway police are investigating.
