Collision involving 18-wheel tractor trailer in Horry County kills one in Nichols, SC

One person died as a result of an early morning collision Wednesday in the Nichols area of Horry County, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Horry County Fire Rescue responded about 5:40 a.m. to the intersection of S.C. 9 and North Nichols Highway in response to the crash involving two vehicles and entrapment, the department posted on social media. One of the vehicles was an 18-wheel tractor trailer, and both caught on fire, the department added.

The tractor trailer and a Honda sedan collided at the intersection, and the driver of the sedan died, while the driver of the 18-wheeler suffered no injuries, according to SCHP Lance Cpl. Nick Pye.

Highway Patrol is investigating the collision, and the name of the person who died has not been released.
