The Horry County Animal Care Center is back open after closing Friday to receive an influx of dogs from an animal abuse case, according to the rescue service.

Mikayla Moskov, a spokeswoman for the Horry County Police Department, said Saturday she is not aware of any new developments in the case. It is not clear who is being investigated for possibly mistreating animals.

More than 30 dogs are being treated at the center, where staff is working with the police on the investigation, police have said.

The rescue is allowing free adoptions for at least a week because it is now at capacity, according to a Saturday Facebook post from the center.
