Myrtle Beach area lottery winner claims $1 million: ‘Going to have a pretty good Christmas’

A man from the Grand Strand is heading into the holiday season with a little extra luck after gaining $1 million in lottery winnings this month.

“I’m going to have a pretty good Christmas,” the winner said.

He bought the ticket at Gators Liquor in Surfside Beach, which will receive $10,000 in commission, according to a news release from the South Carolina Education Lottery.

The first five numbers on the man’s Powerball ticket matched the winning numbers, giving him the unlikely award of $1 million — the chances of winning that much are one in 11,688,054, according to the lottery.

The winning numbers were 21 - 46 - 47 - 57 - 62, and Powerball 8. The Grand Strand winner missed the jackpot by one number.

He’s the third person to buy a lottery ticket in the area worth $1 million or more in recent months. This summer, a $2 million prize and a $3 million ticket were sold in Myrtle Beach.
