A Powerball ticket worth $1 million was purchased at a Surfside Beach liquor store for Monday’s lottery drawing.

The ticket, bought at Gator’s Liquor on U.S. 17 North, matched all five Powerball numbers to earn the major prize, bucking the odds of 1 in 11,688,054, according to a news release from the South Carolina Education Lottery.

Those odds have seemed to favor those playing in Horry County this year, though, as this is now the third ticket purchased during 2021 locally to pay out at least $1 million.

A customer in June at Coastal Petro in Myrtle Beach won $2 million, followed by a $3 million winner at Murphy USA in Myrtle Beach. A lottery player at Lowes Food in Murrells Inlet also won $200,000 earlier this month.

Net proceeds from the money spent on S.C. lottery tickets go to fund education, prizes, retailer commissions and payment to contractors for goods and services.
