Another new strip mall is being sought in the Market Common area. Here’s what we know.
A popular shopping plaza along Farrow Parkway in Myrtle Beach could see a new building constructed.
Plans submitted last week by Greenville -based firm McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture calls for the construction of a 4,621 square-foot, three-tenant building in the Coventry Crossing shopping complex at the intersection between Farrow Parkway and Coventry Blvd. near The Market Common. The proposal also looks to add landscaping, lighting and parking.
Applicant Austin Diehl did not respond for comment.
The proposed building would join the plaza currently occupied by a handful of retail shops and eateries, including Bagel Factory, Mozzarella’s, Posh Nails, Wine and Design, Black Dog Running Company and Pee Dee Bicycle Shop.
The application is scheduled to go before the Community Appearance Board on Thursday. The board will meet via conference call that will be live streamed on Myrtle Beach’s city government Facebook page.
The proposal is the latest project in the Market Common area to go before CAB. The board recently approved two projects at Farrow Commons, a shopping center that is currently occupied by Walmart Neighborhood Market and about a dozen other retail shops and restaurants.
One project will construct a 17,000-square-foot Goodwill on Agnes Lane, bordering Fred Nash Boulevard. The building will include a parking lot, loading deck, site landscaping, a career opportunity center and a covered drive-thru donation drop-off area.
Robert Smith, president and CEO of Palmetto Goodwill, previously said the project is striving to be completed by March 2021.
With Goodwill retail stores providing education, training and employment services to more than 20,000 people, assisting over 4,600 obtain jobs, Smith said the company has been eager to expand those services along the Grand Strand, adding aspirations of opening an adult high school for those who have aged out of the school system and want to obtain a high school diploma.
The other is a 7,000-square-foot two-tenant shopping complex bordering Farrow Parkway that will house a Dunkin’ Donuts and a veterinarian office. Construction is currently underway, with completion expected by the end of the year. The development will be open for business at the start of 2021.
Another project, which is under review, calls for the construction of a dual commercial shopping complex on a 1.2-acre vacant plot on Cottage Drive, bordering Farrow Parkway. The two buildings — one 6,600 square feet and the other 9,000 square feet — would include restaurants, retail, parking lot and site landscaping.
The proposed project, called Pyade Market Common Commercial Center, would be adjacent to The Lively at Market Common Apartments, The Cottages at Farrow Parkway and several other housing developments, parks, restaurants and retail establishments that make up the popular tourist spot.
Tom Miller, owner of Miller Design Services, said if approved, construction of the two-building complex would happen in phases, with the larger building being constructed first. Miller said construction would begin after Labor Day, with the first phase aiming to be completed next spring.
