Dunkin’ Donuts coming to new complex in Myrtle Beach? Here’s what we know.
A vacant lot along Farrow Parkway in Myrtle Beach is currently under construction with the anticipation a new shopping center will house a Dunkin’ Donuts.
Plans submitted to the city of Myrtle Beach by Greenville-based architecture firm Cor3 Design, LLC call for the construction of a 7,000-square-foot building in the Farrow Commons shopping center that would have two tenant buildings — one for a veterinarian’s office and the other for a restaurant with a drive-thru.
While project engineer Micah Smith couldn’t state what the two businesses will be, representatives from Dunkin’ Donuts confirmed plans to open a “Next Generation” store in the new complex. The popular coffee shop will feature a modern atmosphere, with new and innovative technology, spokesperson Lindsay Haynie said.
The store will also include a tap system serving eight consistently cold beverages such as coffee, iced teas, cold brew coffee and nitro infused cold brew coffee. Additionally, there will be a large outdoor patio, Wi-Fi, a large dining room and a drive-thru.
There is currently no opening date scheduled, Haynie said.
However, while plans are in motion to open a new Dunkin’ location, the company recently announced 450 low-volume locations along the east coast will be closing by the end of the year. Haynie said any potential action to shutter sites in Horry County or anywhere else can’t be confirmed at this time.
“By exiting these sites, we are confident we will be better positioned to serve these trade areas with Dunkin’s newest Next Generation restaurant design that offers a broader menu and modern experience,” Haynie said. “We also remain committed to growing our presence in gas and convenience locations, as well as other non-traditional locations, including airports, universities, travel plazas, and military installations.”
The other business opening in the new shopping complex is expected to be a Banfield Pet Hospital, according to a twitter post made by Cor3 Design’s Twitter account Wednesday afternoon. Despite the post, Smith said he couldn’t confirm what tenet would fill the veterinarian’s office.
That post was later taken down.
Contractor Jackson Hughes also couldn’t confirm whether either business would be part of the project, stating that the tenants are still in their permitting phase awaiting approval. He said the tenants would officially be announced in about a month.
Representatives from Banfield couldn’t immediately be reached for comment about the project.
The new shopping center, which is currently under construction, will be called Farrow Parkway Shops. The building will join the shopping center currently occupied by Walmart Neighborhood Market and about a dozen other retail shops and restaurants near The Market Common area.
Hughes said construction will be completed by the end of the year, with the tenets opening for business at the start of 2021.
