Springmaid Pier to reopen in July after it was destroyed by hurricane nearly 4 years ago

The iconic Springmaid Pier will officially reopen in the coming weeks after facing severe damage from Hurricane Matthew in 2016, a pier spokesperson said Monday.

Maria Hayworth, spokesperson for DoubleTree Resort by Hilton, which oversees the pier, said the reopening will take place no later than July 4.

Construction on the pier began May 2019 and is ongoing. The pier, which is just off the southern-most point of Myrtle Beach’s Ocean Boulevard, was expected to reopen to the public on June 1 but a lightning strike hit a crane on the pier and resulted in a delay.

Last year, the resort said the 1,000-foot pier will feature a restaurant, gift shop and tackle shop. According to the Springmaid Pier Facebook Page, the Southern Tide Bar & Grill and the Fishtales Gift Shop will open when the Pier reopens.
