Myrtle Beach area weather forecast may put a damper on your outdoor weekend plans

Several inches of rain could fall in Myrtle Beach during the weekend as showers and thunderstorms are likely, forecasters say.

The National Weather Service is calling for chances of thunder, lightning and rainfall throughout the weekend and high temperatures around 80 degrees. The NWS in Wilmington, North Carolina, warns of possible flooding in roadways and “cloud- to-ground” lightning strikes.

The Myrtle Beach area may see up to 2 inches of rain, and some places could receive 3 or 4 inches, said Meteorologist Ed Piotrowski with The Sun News’ Grand Strand news alliance partner, WPDE. But despite the rain, area river levels are not expected to significantly rise, he said.

Saturday and Sunday are forecast to be mostly cloudy when it is not storming or raining, the NWS reports.

As of Friday, forecasters predict chances of rain and storms into early next week.
