Here’s why rivers rising could keep you off Horry County waters this weekend
Boat landings across Horry County have closed due to high water levels and chances of thunderstorms later in the week could bring more rain to the area.
Horry County Government announced it’s closed 14 landings until water levels recede enough to reopen. The Conway Marina boat landing remains closed also and will reopen after the water recedes, said city spokesperson Taylor Newell.
Water is expected to rise on the Waccamaw River at Conway through Sunday, said Dave Loewenthal, forecaster with the National Weather Service in Wilmington.
“It’s a slow receding area,” he said. “It looks like it’s going to slowly rise through June 7 and be in moderate flooding through that whole time.”
The river is forecast to rise 13.2 feet through Sunday, he said.
Forecasters are calling for chances of thunderstorms beginning Thursday night, with a 40 percent chance Friday and into Saturday in the Myrtle Beach area.
Horry County closed landings are:
- Billy Witherspoon Landing
- Peachtree Landing
- Socastee Yacht Basin
- Rosewood Landing
- Chris Anderson Landing
- Old Reaves Ferry Landing
- Danny Knight
- Pitts Landing
- Punch Bowl Landing
- Yauhannah Landing
