Together Grand Strand: Surfside restaurant to give free meals to community this week

In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, a Surfside Beach seafood restaurant is giving away hundreds of free meals Thursday to help support the community.

Pirate’s Table Calabash Seafood Buffet has been closed since South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster ordered restaurants to close their dine-in services in March, but they decided to find a way to give back to the community as people in the Myrtle Beach area have lost their jobs.

The restaurant, at 1100 Water Ave. in Surfside, will prepare between 300 and 400 meals Thursday, and employees will be handing meals for two people to each vehicle that lines up at the restaurant between 4 and 5 p.m.

“We are a local restaurant and we know that a lot of our local community has been out of jobs for five, six weeks now,” said Aro Tiratsvyan, director of sales and marketing for Pirate’s Table. “We came up with a complimentary meal for two to support our local community.

“We all have to stick together during this time. Not a lot of the local community can go and spend money every day.”

Each meal will include fried fish, Italian sausage with peppers and onions, and french fries.

There is no need to call ahead and each person is limited to one pick-up per vehicle, Tiratsvyan said. Employees will be delivering food to the vehicles and staff will direct guests to a pick-up point, he said.
