Together Grand Strand: How a North Myrtle Beach restaurant created a mobile grocery store

A local restaurant has found an additional way to conduct business during the coronavirus outbreak, while also lending a helping hand to the community.

Owners of Z’s Kitchen in North Myrtle Beach have partnered with their food distributor to create their own on-the-go grocery store: Gocery Mobile Market.

Paige Harward, Z’s Kitchen owner, said the idea came after learning their food vendor’s sales had dropped. She said they had a 43-foot retail trailer, so they decided to stock it up and take it out into Horry and Georgetown counties so people didn’t have to worry about going into the stores, waiting in line during the virus outbreak.

“We’re excited to be out in the communities,” Harward said. “There’s about five of us who work really hard on the trailer to get it stocked up for the communities we are hopefully blessing.”

The Gocery trailer visits communities around Horry and Georgetown counties, selling groceries to the community, and especially to people who may not want to take trips to the grocery store right now. A list with items and prices is posted to the mobile market’s Facebook each day, along with the schedule of where it travels.

Though only beginning about a week ago, Harward said they want to continue the service after the coronavirus pandemic and especially during times of natural disasters.

“Our intention is to continue this after all of the safety precautions have been lifted,” Harward said. “We would like for this to become the new norm.”
