Grand Strand storm report: Where tornadoes, one of the highest wind gusts were recorded
One wind gust reached higher than 100 mph in Murrells Inlet on Monday as the Grand Strand was slammed with severe thunderstorms, causing thousands to temporarily lose power.
The National Weather Service reports a 114-mph wind gust was recorded in Murrells Inlet about 8:45 a.m. Monday.
Wind knocked over power lines on U.S. 501 during a tornado warning, causing lines to fall across an Horry County Fire Rescue ambulance that was transporting someone to the hospital. The ambulance was damaged, but no injuries were reported.
In Georgetown County, forecasters say there was EF1 tornado damage near Sampit and EF0 damage in the Litchfield Beach area.
The thunderstorms cleared after several hours and all power was later restored.
