Shuck ‘em! How to make the most of oyster season along the Grand Strand

Oysters are in season, and that means roasts are happening on the Grand Strand.

Upcoming oyster roasts in North Myrtle Beach and Myrtle Beach come with entertainment, fundraising for four-legged friends and a 5K race. Here are some events and how you can get yourself a bucket of oysters:

Barefoot Landing Leap Frog 5K and Oyster Roast kicks off at 9 a.m. Saturday with a race and fun run to start the day, followed by oysters from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The leap day will be full of live music, face painting, a variety of seafood dishes and an awards ceremony after the race.

The 5K race is $35 per runner and $20 per runner for the 1-mile fun run. Runners may register for the race at https://www.active.com/north-myrtle-beach-sc/running/distance-running/inaugural-leap-frog-5k-2020.

The following weekend, animal lovers can shuck some oysters on a Saturday afternoon for a cause in Myrtle Beach. Liberty Tap Room’s Shuck Your Paws Off oyster roast to benefit Grand Strand Humane Society is 1-4 p.m. March 7. The event will have live music, $10 oyster buckets and $8 barbecue plates, according to Liberty’s website. A percent of proceeds will go to GSHS. Folks also have the opportunity to see and adopt dogs that are up for adoption, too.

Myrtle Beach Marathon runners may receive 20 percent off and you can bring an item to donate to receive a 20 percent off coupon, the website states. Items include Pedigree dog food, Purina cat food, litter, towels, blankets, treats and toys.

If you are a manager or owner with a restaurant that’s hosting an upcoming oyster roast, please send details to hstrong@thesunnews.com.
