Man says Horry County bars responsible for wife’s motorcycle crash death, brings lawsuit

A husband whose wife died in a summertime motorcycle crash said two Horry County bar and grills played a role in his wife’s death, according to a lawsuit.

Amy McLain and Scott Williams died in the motorcycle crash just before midnight June 29 after it collided with an SUV on U.S. Highway 378 in Conway. McLain’s husband, James McLain, filed the lawsuit this week in Horry County against Tongy’s Shmackhouse in Conway and Harley’s Roadhouse Bar and Grill in Little River, both places of which Amy McLain and Williams were before the wreck, the suit alleges.

The lawsuit states in the afternoon on June 29, Amy McLain and Williams rode on Williams’ motorcycle to Tongy’s in Conway and Harley’s in Little River. Williams was operating his motorcycle under the influence and traveling at a high rate of speed when he struck another vehicle on Highway 378 near Conway, according to the lawsuit. The wreck caused Amy McLain to suffer severe injuries, which resulted in her death, the lawsuit states.

Both bars were negligent in selling alcohol to Williams, knowing he was intoxicated, the suit alleges.

The Sun News has reached out to Tongy’s and Harley’s for comment.
