One dead after car hits a pedestrian on Highway 17 in the Little River area

A pedestrian died after being hit by a car in the Little River area on Saturday.

The wreck happened around 6:05 p.m. on U.S. Highway 17 near Baldwin Avenue, said Cpl. Sonny Collins, with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

A Mazda hit the pedestrian in the road, Collins said. The Mazda’s driver was not injured and will not face charges. South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.

The Horry County Coroner’s Office has not identified the victim.
