Give thanks: Palmetto Pointe Boulevard extension is officially open

The extension of Palmetto Pointe Boulevard is officially open to traffic.

Horry County officials announced Wednesday evening that the extension will open ahead of schedule. The road will connect the boulevard all the way to S.C. Highway 544 at an intersection with Big Block Road. The new road has two wider travel lanes, with roundabouts and sidewalks.

Officials encouraged residents traveling in the area to drive cautiously and be aware of road signs and speed limits.

The $7.5 million project was funded with RIDE III money and is the first major one to be completed.
