Construction of a new sporting goods store at Myrtle Beach’s Coastal Grand Mall begins

The construction of a new Golf Galaxy is underway at the Coastal Grand Mall in Myrtle Beach.

Construction plans include expanding Dick’s Sport Goods to create a dual-sports complex with Golf Galaxy. With plans calling for an 80,497 square-foot addition to be placed on the sporting goods store, areas of the site have been gated off and populated with construction crews last month.

A utilities and site work permit was granted last month to allow for the beginning of construction, but contractors are only permitted to begin the ground work, which includes clearing, grading and underground utilities, according to Myrtle Beach Plans Expediter Laura Thomas.

Thomas said a building permit has not yet been issued.

While design plans for the business have been before the Community Appearance Board since March, Coastal Grand Mall and those involved with the development have kept details mum, with both refusing to confirm the current construction is for Golf Galaxy and declining to offer any timeline on the store’s opening.

Golf Galaxy sells golf apparel, clubs, shoes, accessories and technology. The chain also offers custom club fitting, a custom tee program and simulator rentals.
