Conway teen’s McDonald’s drive-thru video goes viral
A Conway teenager made her way to a national daytime television show after a video went viral of her singing at a McDonald’s drive-thru.
Cecily Hennigan, 15, appeared Tuesday afternoon on Steve, an ABC TV show hosted by Steve Harvey. The Conway teen posted a video last month singing the “McDonald’s Drive-Thru Song” at a Conway McDonald’s. The Facebook video went viral with more than 740,000 views.
The show aired at 3 p.m. Tuesday, and Hennigan performed “Gravity.” It was after her performance that Harvey surprised her with tickets to see Hennigan’s favorite singer Celine Dion in Las Vegas, where she’ll have the opportunity to meet Dion. McDonald’s also gave Hennigan $25,000 towards her college tuition.
Hennigan said on the show she initially wasn’t going to post her video, but her mother’s clients encouraged her so their friends could see it.
“I’ve been singing my whole life,” she told Harvey.
Hennigan said she learned the song from one of her favorite YouTube stars, news partner WPDE reported. Youtuber Todrick Hall first published a video singing the song in 2010 at a McDonald’s drive-thru.
Hennigan, who refers to herself as the McDonald’s girl in her social media bio, has been the subject of news stories across the country. She even got a call from Ellen and the Today Show, WPDE reported.
“If you asked me two years ago where I thought I would be today, I definitely would have never thought this,” Hennigan wrote on Instagram, where she shared photos from her experience on the Steve Harvey show.
Horry County Schools shared the news in a Facebook post Monday.
“HCS is very excited to share that our very own Cecily Hennigan from Conway High School will be on the Steve Harvey show tomorrow, September 4th,” the post said. In August, Cecily sang her order at the McDonald’s drive thru in Conway. Since then her incredible voice, with rhythmic support from her friends, has allowed her video to go viral.”
According to Hennigan’s Facebook page, she is a student at the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities. She previously went to Conway High School.
