Surfside requests SLED investigation into missing funds
The Town of Surfside Beach has requested that the State Law Enforcement Division investigate whether funds are missing from the town’s coffers.
The Sun News reported last Thursday that the town was conducting an audit with its own staff into the funds. SLED Spokesman Thom Berry said his agency received the request in September and has referred the matter to a regional office.
“We were notified on [Sept. 22] from the police chief with the Town of Surfside Beach with a request to investigate what may be some missing funds from the town’s general fund,” Berry said.
He declined to comment further on the case.
Surfside Police Chief Rodney Keziah could not be reached by phone Tuesday morning.
