Coronavirus live updates Sept. 17: Here is the most recent case data for Horry County

Horry County saw 24 more coronavrus cases added to its total, according the latest data released Thursday evening.

The latest numbers bring the Myrtle Beach area’s total positive tests to 9,817 since mid-March. Horry County has also had a total of 183 deaths since March, according to the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control.

Following a spirited debate in Horry County council Tuesday, members voted to extend the county’s mask mandate, meaning people are required to wear a mask or face covering when in public in unincorporated Horry County.

Here are the latest updates on the coronavirus in the Myrtle Beach area Sept. 17:

Georgetown County has reached 1,767 total COVID-19 cases since the beginning of the pandemic, and 42 people have died of the virus in the county, DHEC reports.

South Carolina has reported 132,565 total cases along with 2,992 virus-related deaths, according to DHEC.

Wash your hands & wear a mask

This is your daily reminder to wash your hands often, wear a mask and practice social distancing.

DHEC asks people to wear a mask when visiting public places and practice social distancing to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. It is now mandatory to wear face masks in certain public areas in unincorporated Horry County, the City of Myrtle Beach, the City of North Myrtle Beach and Georgetown County.

Health officials say washing your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds can help prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
