Coronavirus live updates May 30: COVID-19 drive-thru testing begins on Grand Strand

Drive-thru coronavirus testing began on the Grand Strand on Saturday, with Tidelands Health hosting a one-day event at TicketReturn.com at Pelicans Barllpark, the home of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans.

“The Myrtle Beach Pelicans stand with our community to offer resources and support as we all work through this pandemic together,” Myrtle Beach Pelicans General Manager Ryan Moore said earlier this week.

All tests were to be free with no prescreening required as the event was to run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Here are the latest updates on the coronavirus in the Myrtle Beach area May 30.

Cases of the coronavirus increased by 15 in Horry County on Friday, according to the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control.

Those cases bring the total number of cases in Horry County to 410 since mid-March. The county has had 25 coronavirus-related deaths.

Cases of COVID-19 across South Carolina have risen to 11,131 as of Friday afternoon, DHEC reports. There have been 483 virus-related deaths in the state.

Health officials recommend washing your hands often for at least 20 seconds with soap and water to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Social distancing guidelines are still in place, and health officials ask people to maintain a distance of at least 6 feet from others.

The National Weather Service is calling for chances of rain and thunderstorms this weekend in the Myrtle Beach area. The area is forecast to have high temperatures around 80 degrees.
