Coronavirus live updates May 26: Here’s the latest in the Myrtle Beach area
Horry County had the highest amount of newly announced COVID-19 cases last week since the virus was first confirmed in the county in mid-March, health department data shows.
There were 78 cases in Horry County last week, compared to the previous week, which had 39, according to S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control data. The second highest week was April 6-12, with 70 announced cases.

Cases in Georgetown County have reached 69, with three deaths. The county has 493 total possible cases, according to DHEC.
Virus cases in South Carolina have surpassed 10,000 and there have been 440 deaths reported, according to DHEC. There have been 171,034 tests administered in the state, DHEC’s data shows. As of May 21, the state has an 85 percent recovery rate, health officials report.
