Coronavirus update: Here’s the number of cases in Myrtle Beach, Horry County on May 6

There are now 238 positive coronavirus cases in Horry County since the outbreak began six weeks ago.

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control released the latest numbers on Wednesday evening. That is up from the 236 cases reported on Tuesday in the Myrtle Beach area.

Statewide there are now 6,936 positive cases and 305 deaths, according to the latest figures. Statewide about 81 percent of people who tested positive from coronavirus have recovered.

The announcement comes as more COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted. Last week, Myrtle Beach hotels and public accesses reopened for public use.

Health officials are still encouraging people to practice social distancing when they are out. That includes wearing masks and to frequently wash hands.
