Coronavirus live updates April 29: Beach access barricades are down in Myrtle Beach

All public beach accesses have reopened, while some hotels and short-term rentals in Horry County could reopen this week after being temporarily closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Myrtle Beach, Horry County, North Myrtle Beach, Surfside Beach, Pawleys Island and Georgetown County public beach accesses are now open.

Horry County intends to allow short-term rentals, hotels and other accommodation services to reopen Friday as the shutdown order is lifted. The City of Myrtle Beach will vote Thursday on next steps in reopening its accommodation services.

Here are the latest updates on the coronavirus in the Myrtle Beach area April 29.

The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control has announced 12 cases of the coronavirus and three virus-related deaths so far this week in Horry County. There were a total of 20 new cases announced last week, with no deaths, records show.

Since mid-March, the number of coronavirus cases has reached 211 in Horry County, with 15 total deaths, DHEC reported. Georgetown County has seen 40 cases, with two deaths.

Today’s takeaways:
